Dear All,
We're looking for Southeast Asian students to apply for undergraduate places at HKBU for next year. There is a scholarship programme that covers the three years of study here -- not a vast amount, but enough to live on. They can apply for any programme in the university, though obviously those that are mostly taught in English such as IJ are easier to deal with if they don't have any Chinese.
Applicants must have finished secondary school and must have good English (IELTS 6.5 lowest, preferably a lot better than that) and good grades in general. They may have started university already and not feel happy with their place, or have a degree they don't think is good enough.
Our problem is that we have no contacts with schools and other institutions that might help us find candidates, so it's difficult to advertise these places. My thoughts are that there must be some kinds of school that produce the right kind of student. These could be local schools where English is taught well, or international schools that take local students. I realise that this may still produce only a small number of potential applicants because people with the wherewithal to go to such schools are usually better off and can go to universities in the west. I don't know of any agencies that deal with this kind of thing, but would be happy to get in touch with them if you know of any.
If you don't know any, no need to reply to this.
Hope you're all well! We're off to have dinner with the current students on Tuesday night, and we'll drink to the health and happiness of all of you!
